WESTMINSTER, MD (March 4, 2023) -- McDaniel College's Acadia Noll tallied unassisted with 1:20 to play in regulation to break a 10-10 tie, as the Susquehanna University women's lacrosse team was edged by the host Green Terror 11-10 in non-conference play from Gill Stadium Saturday afternoon.
An exciting back-and-forth affair the entire way, Susquehanna (3-2) had to rally three times to tie the game. After falling behind 4-1 midway through the first quarter, first-year
Abby Andrus scored from
Nikki Genovese to start a 4-1 run for the River Hawks. During the spurt,
Hannah McNamara scored twice including with 10:45 to go in the second half to tie the game at five.
McDaniel got two goals from Julia Corry before the halftime break to take a 7-5 lead at the intermission. Susquehanna came out of the locker room and took an 8-7 lead as
Abby Andrus sandwiched a goal by
Caitlin Harvey with two of her own to put the River Hawks on top.
The Green Terror responded with three straight goals to retake a two-goal edge at 10-8, but McNamara scored twice in a three-minute stretch in the fourth quarter to deadlock the game at 10 with 6:53 to play. SU had a good chance with four minutes to go on a free position attempt, but Caleigh Kohr of McDaniel made a save to keep the game deadlocked.
Minutes later, Noll would score the eventual game-winner on a free position shot with 80 seconds to play. Susquehanna got the ensuing draw control, but couldn't get a shot off as the Green Terror held on for the win.
McNamara finished with five goals on six shots on goal, adding an assist, while Genovese tallied a career-high four assists. Andrus scored three times as well, and
Liv Owen posted two assists in the loss. Harvey posted five draw controls and two ground balls in addition to her goal and assist, and
Allie Kutler posted five draw controls.
Kelsey Homberg also picked up four draw controls, and
Liz Hordesky tallied three ground balls and a caused turnover. Senior goalkeeper
Emmy Regan made six saves on the day, adding two ground balls. McDaniel held a slight 26-22 shot lead, though Susquehanna held a 19-17 edge in shots on goal. SU was 20-for-22 on clears Saturday, while edging McDaniel 14-11 in draw controls.
Noll, Corry and Emma Miller all had three points to pace the Green Terror, while Kedall Gracie had four caused turnovers and four ground balls in the win. Kohr also added nine saves in the win.
Susquehanna will host Ursinus College Wednesday, March 8 at 4 p.m. on Sassafras Field in out-of-conference play.
