LA PLUME, PA (April 18, 2023) – The Susquehanna baseball team visited Keystone College on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference matchup, fresh on the heels of a difficult doubleheader loss against Elizabethtown on Sunday. The tilt went the way of the hosting Giants, as SU fell 12-2 on the day.
The hosts were ready from the start, putting together a run in the bottom of the 1st inning that culminated in a three-run home run to push out to a 4-0 lead. The River Hawks responded in the next frame with a home run of their own, a solo shot off the bat of Michael Mancuso. They would then cut the lead down to two in the top of the 3rd inning, scoring another run on an RBI single from J.P. Yore. However, with the bases loaded and only one out, the next two batters would strike out and see the chance for more runs go by the wayside. This would end up being the closest SU would get to surmounting the Keystone lead, as the bats would go quiet for the remainder of the game, while Keystone piled up eight more runs over the next five innings, totaling 12 hits and benefiting from three fielding errors by SU.
The River Hawks finished the day with nine hits, as Kris Morrow would be the only hitter with multiple, going two-for-three at the plate and reaching base a third time on a walk. The Giants finished the day with three home runs, also stealing seven bases.
The River Hawks now sit at 16-15 overall with a return to Landmark Conference play next on the slate. They return home this weekend to host a three-game series against Juniata College, beginning with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday, April 22.
