Men's Lax Clinches Postseason Berth with Win at Goucher

TOWSON, MD (April 22, 2023) – Susquehanna men's lacrosse continued their fine run of form with their third straight victory on Saturday afternoon, visiting Goucher and claiming a 21-5 victory, also clinching their place in the Landmark playoffs.

The game started slowly as the two teams traded shots, with the two goalies making saves to keep things even. The breakthrough came at the 8:41 mark for SU, as Chris Ciccarello fired home on an assist from Charles Braught IV. The rest of the quarter saw Goucher fight back twice, equalizing less than thirty seconds after the first goal and then scoring their second of the game later in the quarter after Jack Gaillard scored Susquehanna's second a few minutes before.

The second quarter was all Susquehanna, as the River Hawks unleashed an onslaught, outscoring Goucher 8-1 in the period and taking control of the tilt. Ciccarello and Kieran Thomas led the way with two goals each in the quarter, joined by tallies from Brennan Lorence, Gaillard, Ted Zaborowski, and Kieran Koenke. Goucher's one back came with just a minute-and-a-half left on a man-up opportunity, making the score 10-3 at halftime.

The third quarter began in a similar positive fashion for the River Hawks, as they scored the first three goals out of the break. The lead reached double-digits with 1:56 left in the third period, as Steven Musser scored the River Hawks' 14th goal of the day on a man-up opportunity. SU remained in control through the end of the game, outscoring Goucher again 6-1 in the final frame.

Ciccarello ended the day with an impressive seven goals, tying his career-high and adding an assist to finish the day with eight points. Braught IV's two assists led the team, while Ryan Prum had a strong day in the faceoff circle, taking 18 of SU's 23 faceoff wins. They finished with 51 shots to Goucher's 23, and also won the groundball battle 39-13.

Now 10-6 overall and 4-2 in Landmark play, the River Hawks clinched their place in the postseason with the win. They could reach as high as second place before the end of the regular season depending on other results. They'll close out the regular season at home on Saturday, April 29, hosting Scranton and celebrating Senior Day, beginning at 1 pm.
