NEW YORK, N.Y. – Susquehanna Volleyball paid a noteworthy visit to New York City on Tuesday evening to play 11th-ranked NYU. The River Hawks rebounded from a 25-12 first set decision handed down by the Violets to jump out to a strong second frame, leading by as much as ten at 14-4. NYU, however, worked its way back into the game, eventually taking the set 25-21. With just three points separating Susquehanna from NYU's third-set lead at 17-14, the Violets ran off with eight of the next nine points for a 25-15 win.
Ryan Rorls led Susquehanna with nine kills, holding a .100 hitting percentage with 30 attempts and just six errors.
Emily Kowalski had five kills, while
Amanda Gore had four kills with a .375 percentage off eight attacks and only one error.
Keira Roach led the team with 17 assists and two service aces, while adding two kills.
Valerie Stoltz led Susquehanna with 11 digs.
NYU's swift first-set victory was due in part to a staggering .727 hitting percentage with 16 kills and zero errors on 22 attempts, along with six service aces. This led to the Violets finishing with a .298 percentage, totaling 58 points with 36 kills and 11 errors off 84 attempts. Susquehanna finished with a .093 percentage, earning 34 points with 26 kills and 18 errors off 86 attempts. NYU also ended the evening with 22 total blocks compared to nine for Susquehanna.
The River Hawks' big week continues this weekend, traveling to Ithaca College for the Bomber Invitational. They open Friday against SUNY Geneseo, followed by two matches Saturday against eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins in the morning then a matinee matchup with host and 25th-ranked Ithaca.
