Volleyball Starts New England Trip with Visit to #15 Wesleyan

Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, CT – Susquehanna volleyball kicked off their weekend road trip through the Tufts/Wesleyan Invite with a stop at Silloway Gymnasium to take on number 15-ranked Wesleyan University. The undefeated Cardinals proved a tough test for the River Hawks, as the opposing squad had not lost a set in their last three matches, including a tough Tufts squad who Susquehanna faces Saturday evening. Ultimately, SU was unsuccessful in slowing down Wesleyan, finishing the night with a 3-0 defeat.

Set one started out with a bang, as Susquehanna quickly pulled out to a 5-4 lead, capitalizing on an attack error and service ace from the favorites. SU would never find the lead for the rest of the set, closing with a proud score of 25-21 in favor of the Cardinals. Set two was more difficult for Selinsgrove's own, as they were never able to find the lead, falling 25-17. The final set seemed destined for the same result as the River Hawks found themselves in a 22-11 hole with defeat all but inevitable. But, as they've done all season long, Susquehanna continued to battle and ended the set outscoring the Cardinals 7-3, at one point scoring five unanswered points.

Junior Emily Kowalski led the River Hawks in kills for the fourth consecutive match, followed closely by first year Sami Kline who earned 10 on the night. Kyndall Mason topped Susquehanna with a .600 hitting percentage as Keira Roach collected 12 assists. Overall, Susquehanna finished the night with a .134 hitting percentage, notching 33 kills on 112 attempts. Wesleyan ended with a .254 hitting percentage from 44 kills on 114 attempts.

The River Hawks will continue their journey north as they prepare to face their final two opponents of the Tufts/Wesleyan Invite. Their first match comes against RIT at 1:30, followed immediately by the co-hosts, number 22-ranked Tufts.
