Susquehanna Dominates in Return to Landmark Play with Drew, Runs Win Streak to Four

SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University women's basketball team's momentum carried over into the new year Wednesday night with a 83-58 home win over Drew in Landmark Conference play for their fourth straight win to run their record to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in league play. Their momentum will serve them well heading into Saturday's anticipated matchup with fifth-ranked Scranton in the Electric City at 4 p.m.

The River Hawks were in control from the beginning, dropping a season-high 32 points in the first quarter alone for a 32-13 lead. From Carly George's opening layup on Susquehanna's opening possession, the orange and maroon led throughout, marking the second time this season they finished above 50 percent shooting with a 50.8 field goal percentage (30-59), including 8-of-16 from 3-point range and 15-of-18 from the free throw line. Drew fared 32.1 percent (18-56) with 3-of-14 made from behind the arc and 19-of-27 at the charity stripe. SU also doubled down in the paint for a 44-22 edge under the rim over the Rangers.

Kenzie Selvaggi had a game with 19 points, drilling 6-of-8 from the floor and 4-of-6 from long range with 3-of-4 free throws made. She and her fellow starters all finished the night with double digits in scoring as Kaitlyn Lynch delivered 16 points, making a pair of threes and leading at the free throw line making 6-of-7. Reigning Landmark Athlete of the Week Julia Roth netted 14 points, connecting on 6-of-10 from the floor and grabbing nine eight rebounds with four assists in a team-high 32 minutes of action, while Julia Pinckert made ten points to go with seven rebounds and four assists. Carly George just missed out on a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds.

Following the game the River Hawks received news about their Saturday opponent losing to Elizabethtown for their first loss of the year 67-64 to move to 11-1 on the season and 4-1 in Landmark play, ending a 35-game conference win streak dating back to the truncated 2020-21 season. Susquehanna's recent success hopes to serve them well in its bid to secure a win over the eight-time defending Landmark champions.
