Men's Soccer Finishes Strong with 2-0 Win at Drew

MADISON, NJ - Susquehanna men's soccer finished their 2024 season on a high note, scoring twice in the second half en route to a 2-0 win over Drew on Saturday.

For the fifth game in a row, the River Hawks entered half-time at 0-0, with both teams tallying five shots in the first 45 minutes, while also winning three corners.

In the 50th minute, the River Hawks broke the deadlock when senior Max Paczewski fended off a pair of Ranger defenders to dribble into the penalty area and poke past the goalkeeper for his eighth goal of the season, taking him to tied-second in the conference. He wraps up his career with 18 goals in the past 2 seasons and 25 as a River Hawk.

While Drew sought an equalizer, the River Hawks capitalized on a quick free-kick by Clay Yannazzone, seeing Ben Sweeney find Paczewski, who burst into the penalty area before crossing to pick out the head of Angelo Zografos, who nodded in to seal the win in the 89th minute.

Tony Burns, starting in goal for Susquehanna, played all 90 minutes and made six saves, five coming in the second half. The River Hawks were outshot 18-9, but made the most of their chances to claim a win that saw them finish above .500 for the first time since 2021. Paczewski and Zografos led with three and two shots respectively, while Holden Miller, Hayden Swinehart, Aidan Diglio, and Louis Ciampi all contributed with single shots. The River Hawks found the target with two shots, both of which resulted in goals.

The River Hawks finish their season 8-7-3, finishing on a strong note and seventh in the Landmark Conference. As they say goodbye to their seniors, Santiago Andino, Yannazzone, Miller, Zach Polovitch, Seth Sidle, Tom O'Keefe, Ben Sweeney, and Paczewski, the side led by Jim Findlay look ahead eagerly to 2025 after a season that saw them rack up 32 goals, up from 19 in 2023.
