River Hawks Outduel Elizabethtown 82-79

SELINSGROVE, PA - Jackson Van Wagener, Cooper Haberern, and Brandon Lavitt combined for 51 points on Saturday, leading the Susquehanna Men's Basketball team to a win against visiting Elizabethtown, 82-79.

Van Wagener paced the River Hawks with 18 points on 45.4% shooting including two key three-pointers in the second half for the River Hawks. Lavitt matched Van Wagener with 18 points on an efficient 7-12 from the field and Haberern added 15 points that included three made three-pointers.

The win over Elizabethtown snapped Susquehanna's two-game setback and pushed them above .500 as they sit with a 4-3 record and 2-2 in the Landmark Conference.

Both teams went back in forth with six lead changes in the first half, but the River Hawks captured a 43-41 lead in the final stages of the first half, one that they would not give back for the remainder of the game.

Susquehanna jumped out on a 7-2 run in the beginning of the second half to extend their lead, building a much-needed cushion thanks to the big-time scoring of Van Wagener and Lavitt.

The Blue Jays brought the deficit down to four with 9:25 remaining in the second half, but the River Hawks immediately responded by going on an 8-0 run in just 1:25 of play time. Van Wagener was instrumental in Susquehanna's response, drilling two back-to-back three-pointers.

Elizabethtown made one last push with less than a minute remaining but was unable to grab the lead from the River Hawks in the game's final seconds.

Michael Pirone, Audric Washington, and Steven Ressler also added to the scoring for the River Hawks. Pirone totaled 11 points on an efficient 5-9 from the field, Washington tallied eight points with five rebounds and four assists, and Ressler chipped in with eight points and three more rebounds.

The win for the River Hawks gets them back on track as they now look ahead to a non-conference match up at home against Delaware Valley this Saturday Dec. 14, who enters the game with a 3-4 record.
