SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University men's tennis team embarked on their first Landmark Conference road trip this weekend, breaking even by rebounding from an 8-1 defeat at Drew on Saturday with a 6-3 victory at Elizabethtown Sunday. DREW 8, SUSQUEHANNA 1
Despite being sheltered inside the Simon Forum to avoid the inclement weather, the River Hawks were drenched by swift Rangers wins. Accounting for Susquehanna's strong matches was at three doubles, where the team of
Owen Miller and
Daniel Murphy nearly had a bid over Ian Michel and Jack Polvere, coming down to a tiebreaker that saw the Drew team win 8-7 (7-6). Murphy would gain the team's lone win in the six singles matchup with Josh Kline, winning 8-6.
SUSQUEHANNA 6, ELIZABETHTOWN 3
Though the Blue Jays gained victories in the top doubles and singles spots, it was Susquehanna that displayed the depth to take the majority of the wins. The River Hawks earned doubles wins at two and three, where the team of
Tim Basta and
Gavin Ream won at two 8-1 and
Owen Miller and
Daniel Murphy at three, 8-5. E-Town won at one and two singles, but Susquehanna prevailed in the remaining four singles matchups handily to take the victory. Miller and Murphy made it a perfect day in their respective three and six singles matched, with Miller winning 6-2 and 6-1, along with Murphy with 6-0 blanks.
