Lorence Breaks Career Points Record in Blowout Win Over Goucher

SELINSGROVE, PA (April 17, 2024) - The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team defeated Goucher College 14-4 Wednesday afternoon as Brennan Lorence became the program's all-time leader in points scored in a Susquehanna career.

The River Hawks once again set the tone early, winning the first period 7-1 and outshooting the Gophers 12-4. Lorence scored the first goal of the game to get his 183rd point of his college career, breaking Austin Lein's record of 182, which stood for a decade. Connor Aitken, Steven Musser, Matthew Faggioli, and Pat McDermott each scored later in the period as Susquehanna was in complete control.

The River Hawk offense slowed down considerably over the last three quarters as they scored seven goals the rest of the game. In the second period they scored three, two coming from Aitken and the other coming from goalie Jozef Korpics. On the other end, the Susquehanna defense held Goucher scoreless in the period and forced six turnovers, giving the River Hawks a 10-1 lead at the break.

It took just six seconds for Susquehanna to score in the second half with Lorence scoring his second of the game off a Jared Tavernite face off win. Musser and Jack Gaillard each scored within the next five minutes to make it 13-1, but the offense was silenced the rest of the period while Goucher ended a long scoring drought to make it 13-2 after three.

The only goal scored for Susquehanna in the fourth came from Lorence, his third of the game, at the 11:54 mark. The River Hawks rested their starters down the stretch while the Gophers scored two more goals at the very end, making it a 14-4 final.

Lorence led the team with five points on three goals and two assists with Gaillard and Aitken right behind him at four. Musser also scored three goals while McDermott and Faggioli each had one goal and an assist. The Susquehanna defense also held their own on the penalty kill as Goucher went 2-6 on man-up opportunities.

The win brings Susquehanna to 13-2 overall, the most wins in any season in the program's history, and 7-0 in the Landmark Conference. The River Hawks go on the road for their next game against the University of Scranton on Saturday April 20, with the game starting at 1 p.m. A win will clinch a first-round bye for the River Hawks as they look for home-field advantage throughout the Landmark Conference Tournament.
