Riefenhauser Goes for the Century Mark as Women Breeze Past Gophers

BALTIMORE, MD – Just days after a sound win over Landmark-foe Wilkes, Susquehanna doled out the same kind of treatment against its hosts Goucher on Wednesday with a 16-3 win. For the second straight game the River Hawks led off the scoring with the first 11 goals as Heather Riefenhauser led with a career-high six goals towards an eight-point day, surpassing the 100 career goal mark with her fifth score.

Caitlin Harvey was next on the goal scoring hierarchy with four, while Liv Owen carried two goals and one assists for three points. The remaining goals were divvied up by Kelsey Homberg, Hannah McNamara, Sophia Trively, and Jessica Russo, with Homberg and McNamara adding one assist. Emma Kelleher assisted two.

The River Hawks delivered five first-quarter goals and the first six of the second quarter. Riefenhauser had five of the team's first ten goals, reaching the century mark with 10:37 left in the second to make it a 10-0 lead. The Gophers finally got on the board near the end of the first half as the score displayed 11-1. The running clock remained in effect as Susquehanna refused to squander its ten-goal lead. Harvey opened up the second-half scoring with her third goal of the day, then after Goucher's second goal Trively built SU's lead back up to 11. This happened once more when the Gophers cut the lead down to ten again to begin the fourth, only for the River Hawks to close things out with three goals from Riefenhauser, Harvey, and Russo.

Also on Wednesday Drew defeated Moravian by a 20-16 score, putting them and Susquehanna in a three-way tie for fourth place. The River Hawks hold the upper hand, possessing the best goal differential. To remain ahead, Susquehanna has an important Landmark matchup at home Saturday versus last year's champion Scranton at 1 p.m., then wrap up the regular season next Saturday, April 27 versus Elizabethtown.
