While Saturday's festivities were cut short due to rain and the cancellation of their match with McDaniel, both River Hawk teams made up for it with a pair of 5-4 wins over King's (Pa.).
Upperclassmen
Julie Bramley,
Isabella Scappaticci,
Katelyn Richter,
Jane Weaver,
Serah Yusuf,
Alex Baker,
Logan Boyer,
Carson Barry,
Tim Basta, and
Brendan Stockdale were recognized for their indelible contributions to the tennis program over the course of their student-athlete careers at Susquehanna.
In the women's matchup with the Monarchs, the River Hawks took two out of three doubles matches to gain the competitive edge, backed by a tiebreaking win at one by the tandem of Bramley and Scappaticci, trouncing Ashley Kenia and Hailey D'Amato 8-7 (5) and the three team of
Katherine Yoder and
Jane Weaver knocking off Emma Rooney and Anagrace Schwartz 8-2. The senior tandem of Bramley and Scappaticci carried the winning fever over to their last career singles matches, where Bramley beat Kenia by matching 6-2 set scores at one, while Scappaticci took down D'Amato at two singles, 6-1 and 6-3. Over on court three,
Alexa Wanamaker clinched the victory for the River Hawks, persevering through a tough first set against Jackie Costello to win 7-5, then pulled away in the second frame by a more decisive 6-2 ledger.
For the men, Susquehanna got off to a good start taking the doubles matches at two and three, with the two team of
Owen Miller and
Daniel Murphy beating Patrick Pech and Aidan Temple 8-1. The three matchup with seniors
Logan Boyer and
Brendan Stockdale made the most of their final match together, going down to the wire with Brendan Turowski and Cody Zheng going out on top 8-6. As the day moved over to singles, things became more contentious as both sides waged victories to stay in the race. King's claimed singles wins at one and two, with Logan Gregory defeating SU's Basta 6-1 and 6-0 and Monarch John Toussaint defeating Baker 6-2 and 6-0. The first-year Miller played an exciting three singles match in his rematch with Pech, coming down to a tiebreaker in the third set. Miller opened with a 6-3 win, which Pech countered with a 6-2 win. Knotted up at 6-6 in the third frame, Miller strung together a good run, ultimately coming out on top 7-2. Needing two more wins in the latter stages of the match,
Thomas Hallahan and Murphy provided the finishing touches to claim the win. Hallahan defeated Aidan Temple at four, 6-2 and 6-3, while Murphy defeated Zheng at six singles, 6-1 and 6-4.
Gavin Ream played a tight match in the five singles spot with Brendan Turowski. After suffering a tiebreaking defeat in set one 7-6 (5), Ream bounced back to take set two 6-1, which Turowski returned the favor with interest in the third frame.
