SELINSGROVE, PA - The Susquehanna men's swim team saved many great performances for Saturday in their home season finale against Scranton. The River Hawks finished with five first-place finishes and eight podium finishes. Among the accolades was David Gentile who finished the day with one individual first-place finish and anchoring the 400 freestyle relay that prevailed by .14 seconds to cap the meet.
From the start, the River Hawks came out of the gate hot. The first event that the men participated in was the 200 yard medley relay. Kaden TenEyck, Akira Black, Dan Venuti, and Eskander Bierman claimed second place in the event with a time of 1:41.83. Keegan Pence took third place in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.04. The mens first win of the meet came at the 100 yard backstroke, as Venuti edged out the Royals' Zach Leonard with a time of 57.98. Gentile kept the winning ways coming in the 100 yard breaststroke as he won first-place with a time of 1:04.23, followed by Black putting up a time of 1:04.30, which was good enough for second place. The 50 yard freestyle fared well for Susquehanna as TenEyck won the event with a time of 22.43. TenEyck kept on winning as he got another gold medal in the 100 yard freestyle, pacing a time of 49.73. Brandon Sutherland got a second place finish in the 200 yard backstroke, putting up an impressive time of 2:12.14. The 200 yard breaststroke saw the River Hawks place on the podium again. Joey Wayne put up a time of 2:30.41, which was good enough for the third place finish. Brandon Sutherland helped Susquehanna take third place in the 200 yard IM, with a time of 2:16.64. The biggest win of the meet for the men was the 400 yard freestyle relay, just edging out the Royals with a time of 3:21.88 was Bierman, TenEyck, Pence, and Gentile, which gave the River Hawks the last work and beating out Scranton's best team, who finished at 3:22.02.
The River Hawks are abroad the rest of the season, traveling next Saturday to Marywood for a non-conference meet, followed by Washington College of Md. on Saturday, Feb. 1 before getting ready for the Landmark Championships Feb. 13-16 from Baltimore, Md., hosted by Loyola College of Md.
