Men's Swimming and Diving John Winters

Men Tame Pacers with String of Victories

Scranton, Pa - Susquehanna men's swimming gained many great marks and victories as they defeated the Pacers of Marywood University by a 149-48 score, propelling the team to 5-6 on the season with one meet to go before the Landmark Championships.  

The men entered the day with a first place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Brandon Sutherland, Akira Black, Dan Venuti, and Kenny Smith each helped post a time of 4:05.39. Smith rode the momentum of winning this event, as he claimed first place in the subsequent 1000-yard freestyle, tallying a time of 12:18.64.  

Three River Hawks took the top three spots in the 200 yard freestyle. Kaden TenEyck won the event posting a time of 1:53.66, followed by David Gentile's time of 1:55.93. Third place was taken by Joey Wayne, posting a time of 1:58.66. The winning ways of the River Hawks did not slow down there. The 100 yard backstroke saw two River Hawks claim the top two spots. Dan Venuti won the event with a time of 58.38, followed closely by Brandon Sutherland seeing a time of 1:00.65. Susquehanna's Time Wetmore posted a time of 1:08.21 which was good enough to win the 100 yard breaststroke. Second place was claimed by Akira Black, tallying a time of 1:08.96.  

Eskander Bierman in his first event took third place. He posted a time of 19.36 in the 50 yard freestyle. The 100 yard freestyle saw a slew of River Hawks top the leaderboard. Kaden TenEyck got the gold, with a time of 50.12, followed by David Gentile, and Eskander Bierman. Their times were 51.33 and 52.83, respectively. Brandon Sutherland added nine points to the total score of the team with a win in the 200 yard backstroke, his time as 2:14.68. Akira Black won the 200 yard breaststroke, with a time of 2:35.17.  

The only swimmer for the 500 yard freestyle was Joey Wayne. He ended the event with a time of 5:32.03, adding another win for the River Hawks. The 100 yard butterfly fared well for Susquehanna as Dan Venuti and Eskander Bierman took the top two spots. Venuti's time was 56.78, while Bierman's time was 1:01.72. Kenny Smith defeated Pacers Alex McCarey in the 400 yard IM, bragging about a time of 5:13.53. The final event of the day fared almost as well as any event that the men took part in. Two teams of River Hawks took the number one and two spot. David Gentile, Joey Wayne, Dan Venuti, and Kaden TenEyck posted a time of 3:27.62, which was good enough for first place. Second place saw Eskander Bierman, Time Wetmore, Brandon Sutherland, and Akira Black post a time of 3:41.17. 

The men finish the day with a score of 149, which crushes the Pacers 48. The men hope to maintain their winning ways as they head to Washington College (Md.) to take on the Shoremen. As the season is wrapping up the men want to carry momentum into the Landmark Championships which begin on February 13.
