Tennis Again Sweeps Landmark Athlete of the Week Honors

SELINSGROVE, PA - The Landmark Conference has announced that Nathan Bassett and Claire Gallagher have been named the men's and women's Athletes of the Week after outstanding performances that resulted in the River Hawks winning their two home matches this weekend against Misericordia and Penn College to complete their fall seasons. The two also played valiantly in the team's midweek trips to Albright.

Nathan Bassett rallied his way to a clean sweep in all three doubles matches this week, alongside doubles partner Owen Miller. Bassett continued his dominant performance on the week, winning all three singles matches he participated in this week. Partnering up with Austin Imhoof, Bassett helped defeat Esteban Vallejo and Dylan Huha in a 6-3 match win over Albright. Bassett continued his dominance against Albright as he defeated Leonardo Russo Gispert in the five singles match. Partnering up with Owen Miller against Misericordia's Derek Burcik and Noah Ceklosky, Bassett advanced to 3-0 during the week in a 6-2 win over the Cougars pair. The five singles match against the Cougars saw Bassett defeat Eli Harding in a clean sweep in two sets. Nathan Bassett paired up one last time this season with Owen Miller, where the duo defeated Penn College's Jayden Manbeck and Logan Ogden, 6-0. The final match up of the season for Nathan Bassett was against Avery Hawk, where the SU athlete defeated his opponent in two sets, 6-0, 6-0. Bassett dropped no more than two sets during all matches he was showcased in this week. The men swept Misericordia and Penn College by 7-0 scores.

Claire Gallagher rallied her way to two singles matches wins, as well as one doubles match win in the three match season finale for the River Hawks. Gallagher's dominant performances against Misericordia University and Penn College helped notch the River Hawks first athlete of the week honors. Gallagher defeated Misericordia's Natalie Leibman in two sets, 6-1, 6-0, to earn her first win of the weekend. Teaming up with Kaiya Reisinger, Gallagher defeated Penn College's Faith Murray and Leah Vest in a close battle, 7-5. Wrapping up her fall season, Gallagher took on Kiera Wene, with Gallagher coming out victorious in a back and forth battle, 7-6, 6-0.  Her performances were major factors in Susquehanna winning a pair of thrillers against the Cougars and Wildcats, winning both by 4-3 scores.
