All Four Seniors Play Role in Sweep of Goucher on Senior Night

Selinsgrove, PA - The Susquehanna Women's volleyball team were in Landmark Conference action on Friday against Goucher where the River Hawks defeated the Gophers 3-0. Before the game, Susquehanna commemorated their seniors Jessica Sack, Kyndall Mason, Katelyn Dugery and Regan Kane to celebrate their final season with the team.

HOW IT WENT DOWN
  • The first set began with the River Hawks jumping out to a 5-1 lead that Goucher ended up coming back from. This would be the theme for the whole set, as when Susquehanna took the lead and tried extending it, Goucher would come roaring back and tie the game.
  • Susquehanna managed to stretch their lead to 24-22, only needing another point to close the first set. That's when the gophers scored three points in a row to take the lead in the set 25-24. The River Hawks then scored a point to tie the score at 25 apiece, and from there the two teams would trade haymakers with no team able to capitalize when up one.
  • With the score at 28-28, Mason finished the job for the River Hawks scoring the two final points via kill and giving Susquehanna a 30-28 win in the first set. The two final kills from Mason were her fifth and sixth in the set, as Susquehanna in the first set as a team recorded 14 kills, five blocks and three service aces
  • Set two began almost the same as the first, with an early 4-0 River Hawks lead vanishing after Goucher scored three straight points to make the game closer. From here no team would lead by more than a point until the River Hawks scored three straight points to take a 13-9 lead.
  • The Gophers would attempt to comeback from the deficit like they did in the first set, but the River Hawks defense only allowed five points from Goucher for the rest of the set. Susquehanna had a .364 hitting percentage in the third set which helped seal the deal in set two 25-16.
  • The third set again saw Susquehanna build an early 6-2 lead and this time holding it for most of the set. The River Hawks led by as much as eight, but with the score at 18-11 in favor of Susquehanna, the Gophers went on an eight point run to tie the score 18 apiece.
  • After letting the lead slip away, Susquehanna managed to finish the third set similarly to how the finished in the second, only allowing three more points from the Gophers and recording five team kills to complete the sweep. A kill from Sack on her senior night sealed the deal for the River Hawks 25-21.
