Susquehanna Earns Landmark Tie at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - Susquehanna men's soccer earned their first point in Landmark Conference play on Saturday at Elizabethtown, falling behind before the interval and scoring early in the second half to secure a 1-1 tie.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Susquehanna won a corner inside the first minute, and the resulting shot was taken by Angelo Zografos and saved by Elizabethtown goalkeeper Sam Frey.
  • Khalil McDonald tried a shot from distance in the 22nd minute, and also found the gloves of Frey.
  • An Elizabethtown long throw in the 29th minute was flicked dangerously across goal and fell for Will Withall, whose header was met by a diving Finn Kramer, who parried the effort away at full stretch.
  • The Blue Jays opened the scoring in the final minute of the first half, when an in-swinging corner was met on the volley and directed through the crowd in the penalty area, finding the side netting as it came back across goal.
  • Susquehanna nearly had a response in the 50th minute from a similar situation, when Alex Clark's delivery from the corner was headed narrowly over the crossbar by Javier Diaz.
  • McDonald made a dangerous run into the penalty area, and when the ball was poked away from him, it fell to the left foot of Zografos, who picked his spot and didn't miss, as his low drive evaded five surrounding Blue Jay defenders and the goalkeeper before nestling in the bottom right corner in the 55th minute.
  • McDonald won a free-kick just after the hour mark, and the resulting delivery by Owen Kaar was redirected narrowly past the right post by Aidan Diglio. A powerful effort from McDonald followed moments later, but he blasted just high.
  • Both sides had late opportunities to win the game, but neither goalkeeper was troubled following the equalizer as the two sides played out the final minutes to share the points.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Susquehanna led with 12 shots and three on target to Elizabethtown's eight and two respectively. Zografos and McDonald combined for the three on target, with each seeing a shot saved along with Zografos netting his third goal of the season. McDonald's three total shots were the most of any player.
  • Susquehanna won four corners, while the Blue Jays won five, and the River Hawks committed two more fouls with nine to the hosts' seven. Kramer made one save in goal.
  • Jim Findlay elected to make four changes to his starting eleven from the previous game, with four first-years being introduced in Kramer, Clark, Diaz and Jack McCarthy.
UP NEXT FOR SU
  • The team moves to 4-6-1, with an 0-1-1 record in Landmark play. Their four-game road trip has reached its halfway point, with the following two games both coming on the road at Wilkes and Drew. The River Hawks return home to square off with Juniata on Tuesday, October 14th.
