Volleyball Marches on to Juniata for Landmark Semifinals; Purchase Tickets Now!

HUNTINGDON, PA - Susquehanna volleyball celebrated a thrilling five-set victory Tuesday night over Moravian in the opening round of the Landmark Conference Tournament, earning them a semifinals spot Thursday night against top-seed and defending national champion Juniata. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Huntingdon.

HOW WE GOT HERE
  • Susquehanna entered the Landmark Tournament as the fourth seed following five conference victories. 
  • The River Hawks entered Tuesday night against the fifth-seeded Moravian Greyhounds, who also were 5-4 in the conference. Susquehanna, though, held the tiebreaker from beating them earlier in the year in Bethlehem in four sets.
  • The first game set the tone for what would be a lengthy match, which pushed the three-hour mark. Both sides went over 30 points in the extended frame before Susquehanna finally won the set, 34-32. 
  • Susquehanna held set point in game two 24-18 before the Greyhounds pushed another extended set to steal the game 29-27.
  • The River Hawks took the third set in concinving fashion, 25-16, but Moravian sent the game into a tiebreaker with a 25-23 fourth-set win.
  • Tied at three in the deciding frame, the River Hawks stunned the Greyhounds with eleven straight points, each carried out by Kyndall Mason's serves, landing four aces in that stretch. Susquehanna won 15-5 to clinch a spot in Thursday's Semifinals.
  • The River Hawks totaled 90 points with 71 kills in the lengthy affair. Mason led with 25.0 points and 20 kills, with all four of her service aces coming in the fifth set, along with 27 digs. Addison Dodge had 21.5 points on 17 kills and eight total blocks - one solo, seven assists. Stella Robinson was also up there with 19.0 points thanks to 17 kills and four block assists.
  • Libero and defensive specialist Jessica Sack had 32 digs, along with one service ace, one kill, and five assists. She added to her illustrious career digs total with 1,668 for fifth all-time at Susquehanna.

  • How We Got In: Susquehanna began its Landmark season a perfect 4-0, beating Wilkes, Moravian, Elizabethtown, and Lycoming. After a couple of defeats to fellow Landmark Tournament participants Juniata and Scranton, followed by a five-set defeat to Drew, the team clinched a playoff spot with a sweep of Goucher, then took Catholic to five sets that resulted in the Cardinals winning 3-2. 
  • Landmark Wins: Wilkes 3-1, Moravian 3-1, Elizabethtown 3-0, Lycoming 3-0, Goucher 3-0
