Volleyball Wraps Regular Season at Rowan Tournament, Beating Widener

Glassboro, NJ - The Susquehanna Women's volleyball team ended their regular season by splitting their double header on Saturday with a 3-0 win against Widener and a 0-3 loss against Rowan. The splis gives Susquehanna a 11-20 overall record as the team looks ahead to their Landmark Tournament Opening Round game Tuesday night at home against Moravian at 7 p.m. 

Susquehanna 3, Widener 0
  • After a short Widener run to begin the first set, Susquehanna answered with a five point run to shorten the Widener lead. From there, both teams would go back-and-forth trading two-point runs at a time. Both teams totalled double digit kills in the set, with Susquehanna recording 16 kills and Widener recording 11.
  • Susquehanna eventually stretched out their lead later in the first, scoring their final eight of 10 points via kills. After a kill from SamI Kline, a service ace from Elliot Schleicher, and an attack error from Widener, the River Hawks took set one 25-20.
  • Set two saw more back-and-forth action in the early going. With the score tied at 6 apiece, Susquehanna would go on a six-point run and follow that with a four-point run later in the set to widen their lead.
  • Attack numbers remained high for the River Hawks as they matched their total from set one in the second set. However, Susquehanna also improved error wise, only committing two errors in the frame. The clean performance gave the River Hawks a 25-15 set two win.
  • The third set began with the River Hawks jumping out to another early lead that Widener couldn't come back from. Susquehanna consistently found gaps in the defense for kills while also forcing errors for Widener. Susquehanna led by as much as nine in the set and completed the sweep against Widener with a 25-16 set three win.
  • Addison Dodge led the way for the River Hawks with 21 points, 7 kills, and 6 blocks, which were all career-high's for the sophomore. Kline also recorded 10 kills with a block assist. Valerie Stoltz, Elliot Schleicher, and Callie Wince each recorded two service aces for Susquehanna as well.
Susquehanna 0, Rowan 3
  • The first set began with the Profs up early, but the River Hawks were able to slowly comeback. After four straight points, Susquehanna managed to tie the game at nine apiece. More back-and-forth action would ensue between both teams, until Rowan saw themselves up 15-12.
  • With the lead, the Profs took control of the set from that point on, only letting Susquehanna score three more points for the rest of the set. After a kill and a set error for the River Hawks, the Profs won the first set 25-15.
  • Set two was more of the same at the end of set one, with Rowan dominating early on in the set offensively. Rowan started the set by scoring the first nine points, seven of which were kills. Susquehanna however was at a standstill offensively, not being able to keep up with the high-powered Prof offense. Rowan scored the last six points in the set to take a 25-7 set two win.
  • In the third set, the Profs again jumped out to an early lead that left Susquehanna playing catch-up for the rest of the set. The Profs at one point led by as much as 12 points, and recorded 17 kills in the set. Meanwhile Susquehanna was only held to six kills in the set while also committing five errors. Rowan took set three 25-13 to complete the sweep against Susquehanna.
Up Next For The River Hawks
  • Susquehanna, the four seed, plays host to fifth-seed Moravian in the Opening Round of the Landmark Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. The winner will play first-seed Juniata in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.
