Maffei's Career High in Rebounds Help Propel River Hawks Past Warriors

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - Susquehanna maintained its fourth-place standing in the Landmark Conference as they defeated conference opponent Lycoming College on the road Wednesday, 68-56. The River Hawks played their best against the three-win team that saw Susquehanna pull away in the second half of the contest. The River Hawks are now winners of three straight with a 10-5 Landmark record and 13-9 overall mark.

Susquehanna's playmakers got rattled up a bit as sophomore star, Zoie Maffei sunk 13 points to go along with a new career-high in rebounds with 15. Carly George continued her dominant season on the boards snatching 14 to add to her total on the season. Sydney Weyant and Lauren Klein helped contribute in the points category dropping 15 and 10, respectively.

The matchup began neck and neck for the River Hawks and the Warriors as Lycoming's Ashley Yoh hit the opening shot. The Warriors would begin the game on an 8-0 run before Susquehanna's Zoie Maffei began the scoring for the River Hawks. Susquehanna would take the lead 14-13 with less than a minute to go in the quarter before eventually taking an 18-15 lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter started the complete opposite of the first quarter, with Susquehanna pushing their lead up to 7. Lycoming would knot the game up at 22 all with 5 minutes left in the half. The two teams would keep battling for the lead for the remainder of the half, with Susquehanna clinging onto a mere 1-point lead at halftime, 31-30.

Lycoming kept it close throughout the third quarter with the two team trading buckets throughout, neither team gaining more than a ten-point lead. Late in the third quarter the Warriors would knot the game back up at 46 a piece, before Annie Greek would hit two free throws to head into the fourth quarter holding on to a two-point lead, 48-46.

The fourth quarter fared very well for the River Hawks as they outscored the Warriors 12-2 in the first four minutes, jumping out to their second biggest lead of the matchup 60-48. The Warriors began to threaten Susquehanna's lead, cutting into the 12-point lead by 3, before Kenzie Selvaggi would drain a three to propel the River Hawks to their biggest lead of the game, 66-52. Susquehanna would hold on to defeat the Warriors 68-56 in Williamsport.
