Women's Dominant Win over Juniata Clinches Fourth Seed for Landmark Tournament

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna's women's basketball team has officially clinched the four seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament after defeating Juniata 82-48, backed by a career high from Sydney Weyant's 21 points and the River Hawks opening with 31 first-quarter points. Elizabethtown helped the River Hawks' cause by defeating Drew Wednesday night, offering a two-game gap between the two teams who will face off Saturday from Selinsgrove in the regular-season finale at 2 p.m. The River Hawks will host a Landmark Quarterfinals game on Tuesday, with more information to follow after Saturday's slate of games.

Weyant's game in high in scoring came thanks to her making 4-of-5 three attempts, shooting 7-of-13 from the floor while adding six assists. Zoie Maffei dominated on the boards as she led all players with 10 rebounds. Grace Meehan, Annie Greek, and Carly George all contributed to the rout with double-digit points, featuring 13 from Meehan, 12 from Greek to go with her eight boards, and George contributing 10 points with eight rebounds.

In all the River Hawks shot 50 percent for the game on 35-of-70, including a staggering 13-of-16 (81.26 percent) in the opening quarter to lead 31-9 after one. They began shooting lights out from the three point line, making 5-6 in the frame. Weyant would go a perfect 3-3 from deep to net nine points in the quarter, as Maffei snagged four rebounds. The second quarter started off right where the River Hawks ended the first quarter, shooting 60 percent from the field. Susquehanna extended their lead to 29 points late in the quarter, ending the quarter leading by 23, 46-23. Weyant continued to be perfect from the 3-point line adding another to her total to bring it up to 4-4. Carly George would lead all players in the quarter in points draining 8 points for the River Hawks.

The River Hawks never took their foot off the gas in the third quarter as they continued to make shots from anywhere on the court, extending their lead to 27 points entering the fourth quarter. Weyant would add another six points to her personal total, helping propel Susquehanna to a very solid lead of 66-39 entering the fourth. Greta Servitto checked in during the second half and immediately make her presence felt on the court, netting four points for the River Hawks. Sydney Weyant finish her nighted making her final three points in the fourth to snag a 20-point night. First-year player Cassidy Grimes added a steal to her resume.

Susquehanna's future looks bright ahead of next Tuesday's game with an 11-6 league mark and 14-10 overall. There is, however, one more obstacle to overcome in Saturday's matchup against the Rangers, who are 9-8 in the Landmark and 14-10 overall. The River Hawks defeated Drew on its home court back on Jan. 8 by a 75-64 score, with SU holding down the moniker as the only unranked Landmark team unbeaten against fellow unranked conference foes.
