GLENSIDE, PA - Susquehanna men's lacrosse advances to 2-0 on the season in a thriller against Arcadia University. Jack Gaillard added five assists to his record-leading total.
Susquehanna started the game hot, scoring two times in the matter of seconds for each other. Mikey Rowinski and Brennan Lorence netted the first two goals with the help of Gaillard's assists. Arcadia netted the next goal to cut into the lead, before Gaillard scored his own goal. The Knights would go on to score the next four goals jumping out to a 5-3 lead early in the second quarter.
The second quarter was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams as they would trade goals for almost the entire quarter, before the River Hawks would finish out the half netting two goals, from Gaillard and Ciccarello. Susquehanna would lead 8-7 after the first half in a thriller.
Coming out of the half Susquehanna would earn a man up opportunity, that Brennan Lorence would capitalize on. Susquehanna would advance to their second of three two-goal leads. The Knights refused to go away quielty, as they would drop three straight goals on the SU men's lacrosse team before they could finally answer with a Chris Ciccarello goal to tie the match up 10-10 after the third.
Susquehanna would strike first in the fourth quarter after a long defensive battle between the two teams, that saw them unable to score until 5:55 remaining in the game. Nick Remund would break the tie with an unassisted goal. Shortly after, Remund's goal was Gaillard's final of the day helping the River Hawks jump out to a 12-10 lead late in the game. Arcadia would try to make a comeback when Tristan Johnson cut into the Susquehanna lead with 3:51 remaining. Susquehanna's defense would stand strong as they shut out the Knights in the remaining 3 minutes of the game, to clinch the matchup 12-11.
Brennan Lorence led the team with four goals, while a slew of other River Hawks added to the total score. Jack Gaillard led the SU team with five assists, helping out on almost half of the River Hawks goals. Susquehanna's next challenge are the Cougars of Misericordia University in their home-opener at Sassafras Field on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
