CHAMBERSBURG, PA - Susquehanna baseball collected their first win of the 2025 season on Wednesday, beating Wilson College 18-5 across eight innings behind a two-homer day from
Tony Rossi, who set the all-time career home run record with his second blast of the day.
The River Hawks put up a six spot in the first, started off by Rossi with a laser to left center that left the yard, plating
Dylan Heyduk.
Jack Cahill walked, then stole second, and
CJ Orrego scored him with an opposite-field triple. Orrego scored on a single by
Tyler Hmielewski to make it 4-0, then the right fielder stole second and scored on a single by
Owen Ayers. Ayers made it three stolen bases in the inning when he swiped second and came around to score on a seeing-eye single by
Griffin Shenman.
Rossi ripped a double to start the second, then
Michael Gagliardi and Cahill made it three straight doubles to start the second frame, making it 8-3 after the Phoenix managed a trio of runs in the bottom half of the opening stanza. Hmielewski plated Cahill with a base hit, then stole second.
Joe Healy drew a walk to set up Ayers' bunt single that loaded the bases, and Shenman's groundout scored Hmielewski from third.
With the score at 10-3 after two frames, Rossi stepped up with a chance to make history, and did just that. His home run to left center was the 21st of his career, making him the all-time leader in career home runs in program history.
Cahill was the second run of the inning, reaching on a fielder's choice, stealing second and scoring on two wild pitches.
In the fourth, Heyduk brought home the thirteenth run of the game to make it 13-4 with an RBI groundout that scored Healy. Rossi was intentionally walked and stole second on the very next pitch, then on the following pitch, scored from second alongside Shenman on a wild pitch.
Cahill collected another stolen base after being plunked to open the fifth, and scored on an RBI groundout by Hmielewski. Orrego would also come around to score after walking, crossing the plate on a sac fly by Ayers.

Paul Daly.
