WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Susquehanna women's tennis team needed the majority of the singles wins in order to defeat DeSales Saturday in their opener, which they got just enough of with four of the six to take a 4-3 victory. The Bulldogs got the doubles point winning two of the three group matches, but the all-day effort of the River Hawks prevailed with singles wins at one, three, four, and five.
Macey DiBastiani was the only SU competitor to claim doubles and singles win on the day as her and
Amelia Maguire painted a 6-2 victory against Bulldogs Emily Prokopovich and Tara Clark at two doubles. DiBastiani moved on to rematch Clark at four singles, winning 6-2 and 6-0. The one doubles match was a nailbiter, though won out by DeSales as Nyah Tomlinson and Lilah Maus won 7-5 over
Alexa Wanamaker and
Mackenzie Romig. SU's top doubles partners rebounded in the singles to help their team's rally, as Wanamaker defeated Tomlinson this time at one singles, 6-1 and 6-1, while Romig defeated Prokopovich 6-2 and 6-3 at three singles. The fourth and deciding point remained up for grabs, but ultimately claimed by
Kaiya Reisinger at five singles, defeating Caroline Prince, 6-2 and 6-2, remaining undefeated in her rookie season at singles with a 5-0 record, including 4-0 at five.
