Men's Lacrosse Takes Care of Landmark Opener at Drew

MADISON, NJ- Susquehanna men's lacrosse advances to 1-0 to begin conference play after defeating the Rangers of Drew University 10-7. Chris Ciccarello edges closer to 100 career goals, sitting at 99 after a four-score day. Augie Granatelli breaks 200 career saves after an 18 save day against the Rangers. The River Hawk has 208 career saves.  

The River Hawks started the scoring early ripping three straight goals past the Drew netminder. Jack Gaillard added to his school record with career assists, assisting with two of the first three goals of the afternoon. Brennan Lorence, Reese Ackerman, and Chris Ciccarello all tallied a goal less than five minutes into the matchup. The Rangers answered with one goal of their own, before Gabe Broome scored an unassisted point for SU. Chris Ciccarello assisted Jack Gaillard on a man-up advantage to push the SU lead to four entering the second frame, 5-1.  

The second frame consisted of a defensive battle, with Drew scoring the first goal of the period with 3:15 left. The River Hawks scored one goal in the period, keeping the lead at four. Jack Gaillard earned yet another assist for his career assisting Chris Ciccarello, as he edged even closer to the elusive 100th career goal.  

The third period was the complete opposite of the second frame, as both teams went on multiple scoring runs. The Rangers scored two consecutive goals, cutting the SU lead in half. Ciccarello scored career goal number 98, unassisted. Gabe Broome earned an assist as he dished a perfect pass to Gaillard, scoring the goal and pushing the lead back to four. The Rangers ripped off two goals cutting the lead back to two. Ciccarello scored his 99th career goal off an assist from Pat McDermott to end the third period. The River Hawks sat comfortably with a 9-6 lead entering the final period.  

Reese Ackerman scored the final SU goal off an assist from Nick Remund. Drew answered with one goal of their own in the period, with the game ending 10-7 in favor of Susquehanna.  

The River Hawks propel to 1-0 in the Landmark Conference, and 8-1 on the season. Susquehanna currently sits with the best overall record in the conference. The River Hawks look to keep their momentum strong as they head into a home-clash with The University of Scranton on March 26.
