River Hawks Tripped Up in Series Opener to Elizabethtown

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna baseball opened a three-game series Friday against Elizabethtown, falling 9-3 behind the Blue Jays' two home runs.

Elizabethtown started with two runs in each of the first two innings on multi-RBI knocks off the bats of Sawyer Martin and David Woolley. Starter Evan Applegate found his rhythm after that point, not allowing another earned run the rest of the day in 5.2 innings of work. However, the sophomore southpaw still received a loss.

Three more runs followed in the sixth for the Blue Jays on a three-run double by Quinten Perilli, and Perilli hit a two-run home run in the eighth to make it 9-0.

Jacob Klotz threw 2.1 innings for Susquehanna, surrendering two earned, while Brian Shane threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

The River Hawks found life behind pinch-hitters in the final half-inning, with AJ Sferlazza reaching on a walk, Thomas Andersen following with an infield single, and Cam Eberly delivering a pinch-hit three-run blast over the wall in right center, his second career home run.

The River Hawks recorded seven hits and seven walks, including two hits by Jack Cahill and two walks and a hit courtesy of senior Tyler Hmielewski. The River Hawks will complete their three-game set against the Blue Jays on Saturday, April 19th, where they will celebrate their thirteen seniors on Senior Day, with an 11 a.m. ceremony prior to first pitch.
