Box Score SELINSGROVE, PA - It was a Landmark Conference match that took nearly two weeks to complete, but alas Susquehanna and Drew reunited at Garrett Tennis Courts Friday afternoon to play the remainder of their match on Saturday, April 12 that got called due to rain and the Rangers holding a 3-1 lead when play was halted. When things resumed, all Drew needed to do was win one of the remaining singles matches at four, five, or six. The River Hawks made sure they earned every point as Susquehanna rallied furiously.
To debrief from two Saturdays ago the Rangers won all their doubles matches by 6-1 scores for the sweep and the first point of the match. Drew's Jesse Faro executed a 6-2, 6-3 win at one singles against SU's
Logan Rauschenberger, along with Daniel Ariary defeating
Thomas Hallahan in the two spot, 6-3 and 6-1. Perhaps the match would not have needed Friday's makeup date at all if not for
Owen Miller, who got Susquehanna on the board that Saturday against Shivi Pervea in a three-setter, 6-1, 4-6, and 6-3, to keep Drew from the game-clinching fourth point.Â
As luck would have it, a slight drizzle late Friday afternoon affected Drew and Susquehanna's ability to start the match at the slotted time of 4 p.m., instead beginning one hour later The first match to finish up on Friday was the five singles match, with
Nathan Bassett defeating Drew's Ty Celins 6-1 and 6-4. Susquehanna's six singles player Austin imhoof delivered a three-set victory over Drew's Fu Tingehau, 7-6 (4), 5-7, and 10-7. It came down to another three-setter at four singles, which went the Rangers' way as Josh Kline handed
Tyler Hester a 6-3, 5-7, and 6-2 defeat.Â
The River Hawks' ability to battle back demonstrated their tenacity that helped them clinch a Landmark Tournament spot after Tuesday's 4-3 win at Juniata. They have one more match Saturday, April 26 as they host Scranton on Senior Day where they'll recognize their two upperclassmen, Hallahan and
Eli Markle.Â
