BETHLEHEM, PA - The Susquehanna men's tennis team made their return to the Landmark Conference Tournament for the first time in three years Tuesday at Moravian. The fourth-seeded Greyhounds had defeated the fifth-seeded River Hawks in their regular-season matchup 6-1 and followed suit in the playoff rematch with a 4-0 victory.
The one doubles team of
Logan Rauschenberger and
Tyler Hester had a close encounter with MU's Matt Labosky and Ronny PimentelFerrer, with the latter holding just a 5-4 lead. The match would not be realized, however, as the Greyhounds clinched the doubles point following a 6-1 win at two and 6-4 at three.
Rauschenberger was in a similr situation in his one doubles matchup with Wyatt Marshall. The rookie won his first game 6-2 and held a 4-3 lead, but was unable to finish the match as the Greyhounds won in the three spot at the expense of
Owen Miller, 6-0 and 6-2, four singles against Hester, 6-0 and 6-0, and six singles with
Austin Imhoof, 6-4 and 6-4.
The River Hawks received a boost this season to return to the Landmark Tournament thanks to some newcomers who held down the top spots and managed key victories towards a 9-6 overall record and 4-5 conference record. The team started the year at 5-0, while three of their Landmark defeats were decided by one point in 4-3 decisions against Catholic, Drew and Scranton. Their Landmark wins included Elizabethtown, Lycoming, Wilkes, and Juniata to earn the fifth seed for the tournament, not bad considering they were ranked seventh in the Landmark Preseason Poll.
