Greco's Gem Lifts Baseball over Moravian

BETHLEHEM, PA - Susquehanna baseball took on Moravian in the first game of a three-game series on Friday, winning 9-2 behind a strong first inning and a brilliant outing by Jack Greco on the hill.

Greco went eight innings in the start, a career-high in innings pitched, punching out nine, which brings him to 90 career K's, while he did not allow an earned run.

The River Hawks put up five before Greco had a chance to take the mound, starting on a solo home run by Tony Rossi, the 25th of his career. Dylan Heyduk and Michael Gagliardi followed with singles, and Heyduk scored on a double steal as Gagliardi stole second, and the throw from the catcher was errant. Jaden Buechler singled to score Gagliardi, before stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a fielder's choice by Lucas Zachesky. Christian Biuso put a double in the left-center gap to score Zachesky, but was thrown out at third to end the top of the first.

In the second, Tyler Hmielewski showcased his wheels by legging out an infield single, and then promptly stole both second and third. He scored when Heyduk reached on an error.

Moravian pulled back an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth, but that was all they would manage off Greco in the game, as Greco navigated around six hits and one walk.

Biuso started the sixth by reaching on an error, and advanced to third when Hmielewski did the same. Hmielewski made it to second on a wild pitch, and a balk scored Biuso. Rossi followed with an RBI single to right.

Third baseman Biuso continued his impressive stretch of hitting with runners on base as he accumulated another RBI on a fielder's choice in the ninth.

Brian Shane came in to pitch the ninth, and allowed a run, but rolled a double play and struck out the final batter of the game, as Moravian's run proved only a consolation.

Susquehanna is now 18-20 after the win, and 11-11 in the Landmark Conference. They need one win to clinch a postseason spot in the doubleheader scheduled to start at 11 AM on Saturday, May 3rd.
