Stephanie Johnson Announces Departure to Become Athletic Director at Goucher

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna University Director of Athletics Sharief Hashim has announced that Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator Stephanie Johnson will leave her post at the university May 31 to become the Director of Athletics at Goucher College, a fellow Landmark Conference institution in Baltimore, Md.

"We're thrilled for Stephanie as she takes on this exciting new opportunity," related Hashim. "Since arriving at SU in 2022, she immediately made a strong impression on our students, staff, and campus community. Her passion for supporting student-athlete experiences and her talent for building meaningful relationships were tremendous assets to our department — qualities that will serve her well at Goucher. I'm looking forward to collaborating with her in the Landmark Conference, and I'm excited to see all that she will accomplish."

"I want to thank Sharief, the athletics team, coaches, and student-athletes for helping me mold and grow into the leader I am today. Over the past three years I have had the opportunity to learn and expand my knowledge on college athletics and higher education. I will be forever grateful for the people that I have met and for the people that have made a difference in my life. I would also like to thank my Susquehanna colleagues — my SU experience would not have been the same without them. SU is a special place and this is due to all of the wonderful people that serve the SU students everyday. Lastly, I would like send a special thank you to President Green and Lynn Buck. You both have a special place in my heart. Thank you for being so welcoming and supportive."

At Susquehanna, Johnson has been responsible for overseeing athletic operations, supervised coaches and staff, coordinated events, and supported student-athletes on and off the playing surface. She also developed departmental policies and procedures, implemented programs designed to promote student athlete development, fostered a culture of inclusivity, and ensured compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA policies. A former volleyball student-athlete at Coppin State, Johnson served as Susquehanna's interim women's volleyball head coach in fall 2024, helping guide the River Hawks to the Landmark Tournament. 

Johnson previously served as the Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator at Brevard College in Brevard, N.C., where she created and coordinated a leadership development program for the Brevard SAAC and was responsible for game day event management and operations, facility management, and handling sport oversight of six intercollegiate teams. She was also the Assistant Director of Athletics at Delaware Valley University, managing game day staff, game contracts, special events, facility enhancements, and the scheduling of athletic facilities. As an Assistant Volleyball Coach at Delaware Valley, Johnson's responsibilities included fundraising, recruiting and student-athlete development.

Johnson is a graduate of Coppin State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in sport management. She played NCAA Division I volleyball for the Eagles, while also coaching high school volleyball in the Baltimore area. She also holds a Master of Science in sport commerce from the University of Memphis, where she served as the Assistant Director of Operations for the women's basketball program. Johnson handled the team's travel budget, the supervision of team managers, and summer camp operations for the Lady Tigers.

She is a member of the Women Leaders in Sports, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA), and the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators. Johnson is a native of Memphis, Tennessee, where she was previously the head volleyball coach for three local high schools.
