River Hawks, E-Town Engage in Scoreless Draw

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — The Susquehanna University men's soccer team played Elizabethtown College to a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon at Sassafras Field, earning a point in Landmark Conference play and moving to 2-6-2 on the season and 0-1-1 in the Landmark. 

Both teams combined for just four first half shots, with Elizabethtown blocking the lone River Hawk attempt, taken by Dylan Ryan in the 31st minute. The Blue Jays attempted three in the first half, with none of being on goal.

In the second half, both offenses had more opportunities to score, but neither were able to. Susquehanna took two shots in the final 45 minutes, neither on goal. Khalil McDonald's shot came in the 80th minute, while Jack McCarthy's was in the 86th minute. Elizabethtown attempted five shots, with one being on goal, saved by goalkeeper Finn Kramer. The Blue Jays had their best opportunity in the final minute of the game, a shot by Manny Velazquez that was blocked.

The River Hawks lost the shot battle 8-3, but had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. Kramer's second half save ended up being the only one for either team throughout the whole game.

How It Went Down
  • Neither team was able to find the back of the net through 90 minutes as both defenses controlled the match.
  • Elizabethtown generated three shots in the opening half, while Susquehanna managed one attempt. The Blue Jays increased their offensive pressure after halftime with five second-half shots, but the River Hawks' defense continued to hold firm.
  • Susquehanna took their lone first half shot at 30:27 by Ryan, prior to it being blocked.
  • Susquehanna created several opportunities of its own in the final 45 minutes and earned three corner kicks on the afternoon, but Elizabethtown goalkeeper Logan Sumner was not forced to make a save.
