Baseball Wraps up North Carolina Trip with Piedmont, Berry

Kannapolis, NC - Susquehanna baseball rounded out their trip in Kannapolis, North Carolina at the D3 Showacase, dropping a pair of high-scoring games against Piedmont on Saturday and Berry Sunday. 

Piedmont 15, Susquehanna 1 (8 Innings)
  • 2nd Inning (Piedmont 1- Susquehanna 0): Piedmont added the first run of the afternoon following a wild pitch pushing a run across the plate.
  • 5th Inning (Piedmont 3- Susquehanna 0): The Lions kept the offense strong against the River Hawk defense, pushing two insurance runs across the plate to take the 3-0 lead into the sixth inning.
  • 7th Inning (Piedmont 10- Susquehanna 1): The Susquehanna offense came to life in the seventh inning, after Cangelosi and Haussman both grabbed a base for the River Hawks. Cangelosi patiently waited for a free pass, with Haussman earning earning a single for SU. Vito Demonte sent a ball to Piedmont's SS where Haussman took home plate to add the run for SU.
  • 8th Inning (Piedmont 15- Susquehanna 1): Piedmont continued to showcase stellar offense, tacking on five insurance runs, claiming the game in the 8th inning.
Berry 12, Susquehanna 0 (7 Innings)
  • 1st Inning (Berry 3- Susquehanna 0): The Vikings struck early in the contest, taking the 3-0 lead into the second inning. 
  • 2nd Inning (Berry 6- Susquehanna 0): Berry kept the pressure on SU, taking the 6-0 lead into the 5th inning.
  • 5th Inning (Berry 8- Susquehanna 0): Berry tacked on two additional runs in the fifth inning to take the 8-0 lead into the 6th.
  • 6th Inning (Berry 9- Susquehanna 0): The Vikings tacked on one additional run in the 6th inning. Dylan Heyduk added a single for the River Hawks, but the Vikings defense was to much for SU.
  • 7th Inning (Berry 12- Susquehanna 0): The Vikings finished the game adding three runs in the 7th inning to claim the contest 12-0. Michael Girardi earned a free pass to first base, advancing to second on an Acosta ground out. Susquehanna was unable to produce any further offense, resulting in the game being called in the seventh inning.
Inside the Box Scores: Up Next for the River Hawks:
  • Susquehanna looks ahead to heading down to Florida on March 1 for their annual spring break trip. The Diamond River Hawks are scheduled to take on Norwich University to open the trip on March 1 at 12 p.m.
