Men's Basketball Looks Ahead to Landmark First Round Matchup at Scranton Tuesday

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna men's basketball preps for a rematch against Scranton in Tuesday's Opening Round of the Landmark Conference Tournament. A win will put the River Hawks into the semifinals where they will head to Drew on Thursday. On the other end of the bracket, Wilkes University will host Elizabethtown College in the opening round game, with the winner facing Catholic on Thursday.

Susquehanna's matchup with Scranton is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at University of Scranton's Long John Arena. Tickets can be purchased online by CLICKING HERE, as well as card only at the gate. Cash will not be accepted.

The River Hawks played an extremely competitive schedule, starting the season with a trip to Delaware Valley University, where SU took the win to start the season 1-0. Following the Delaware Valley game, SU returned home to host the Mike Scheib Memorial Tournament, where SU advanced to the Championship game following a dominant win over King's College (Pa.). The River Hawks started their Conference schedule at home against Juniata College, where Susquehanna pulled out the nail-biting win over the Eagles. The River Hawks tallied wins against Penn State Harrisburg, Wilkes University, and Moravian University before heading down to Puerto Rico to take on #6 University of Chicago and #22 Johns Hopkins University. The River Hawks earned a win against Johns Hopkins, claiming their final win of 2025.

The new year posed a challenge at first as Susquehanna went 2-7 in the month of January, with wins over Lycoming and Goucher serving as the lone bright spots as the River Hawks were on the outside looking in on the Landmark Playoff picture with six games to play. Opening the month against Wilkes, Susquehanna offered a statement win with a 90-86 victory for a season sweep of the Colonels, then doing the same against Lycoming, winning 78-59. To stay alive the River Hawks needed a good showing against first-place Catholic. Trailing by three late in regulation, senior Jackson Van Wagener stepped up as the hero, making a game-tying three as time expired to force overtime. With the game tied at 79-79 in the final seconds, Van Wagener played hero again, thwarting the Cardinals' final possession and pushing the ball up the court to KJ Carson, who netted the game winning layup as time expired for a thrilling 81-79 win. The victory proved vital as the River Hawks' 9-9 Landmark record tied them with Moravian for the sixth and final tournament spot, with Susquehanna holding the edge thanks to a split season series with the Greyhounds and forcing the second tiebreaker of head-to-head record against the top of the Landmark standings on down. Their split series with Catholic proved to be the difference maker as the Cardinals swept Moravian.
