SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna men's lacrosse and Lebanon Valley were locked in tight after the first quarter, with the Flying Dutchmen leading just 2-1. But five straight LVC goals put the visitors in control during the second quarter of Wednesday's non-conference game as they handed the River Hawks a 12-4 defeat.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Lebanon Valley's Ryan Grace finished with a game-high five goals, while adding one assist for six points. He opened the scoring Wednesday just over two minutes into the contest before teammate Rowan Myers added one of his own for a 2-0 lead.
- Susquehanna settled after the quick two-goal deficit, holding LVC scoreless through the rest of the quarter as Drew Filipovits cut their lead in half on a Reese Ackerman assist to make the score 2-1 after the first quarter.Â
- The Dutchmen began the second quarter with five unanswered goals, spurred on by three straight from Grace in a shot minute and a half stretch. Myers added his second goal during this run, while Jacob Olson added the one remaining.Â
- Pat McDermott ended Susquehanna's drought in this stretch by scoring a goal as the halftime score read 7-2.Â
- The Dutchmen maintained control during the third quarter, outscoring the River Hawks 4-1 in the frame. Grace added his fifth goal and his one assist in this stretch, while Susquehanna's only answer came from Gabe Broome on a Mikey Rowinski assist.Â
- Both sides exchanged one goal in the fourth quarter, coming from Sean Poole of LVC and Jimmy Maro of SU.Â
- The game went into a lightning delay with 4:32 remaining in the fourth. After a 30-minute break, both sides returned to the field to play out the remainder of the contest.Â
- Ian Murphy got the start in goal, registering six saves against seven goals. He played the entire first half before Will Harcourt took over to start the third quarter, recording three saves against five goals allowed. Matt Connor entered the game following the lightning delay with 4:32 left, adding one save.Â
- All four of Susquehanna's goals were evenly distributed between Filipovits, Broome, McDermott and Maro. Ackerman, Mikey Rowinski and Nick Remund each had one assist, with Rowinski scooping a game-high seven ground balls. Matt Shragher added two caused turnovers.Â
- Lebanon Valley led 39-27 in shots and 22-13 in shots on goal. Susquehanna countered with a 12-8 lead in faceoffs, carried out by Brandon Cash's 7-of-12 day and Brendan Gleason going 5-of-8.Â
