ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - Susquehanna used solid pitching to hold Elizabethtown to one run across two games Saturday to take a doubleheader sweep of the Blue Jays by respective 1-0 and 5-1 scores.
SUSQUEHANNA 1, ELIZABETHTOWN 0
- Pitcher Josh Damaracki threw a gem of a game, offering up three-hit ball with just two walks and striking out five batters.
- The Blue Jays also stymied the River Hawks lineup, allowing just three hits.
- The game was scoreless through six innings. It took until the top of the seventh for someone in this staring contest to blink.
- It came at the expense of Elizabethtown as a wild pitch brought home Michael Girardi for what would be the game-winning run.
- Domaracki made the slim lead stand up, finishing the last three innings allowing just one hit and striking out a pair of Blue Jays.
- Third baseman Luke Goodwin had two of the team's three hits in the opener in a 2-for-3 day. Dylan Heyduk had the one remaining hit.
- Girardi and Gagliardi drew the team's only walks, which proved critical as that led them to be on base to take the lead in the seventh.
SUSQUEHANNA 5, ELIZABETHTOWN 1
- The River Hawks lineup offered up more run support to help their pitcher Ben Gearhart.
- The first two runs came in the second as Dylan Heyduk singled in the game's first run.
- This was followed by Michael Gagliardi making it 2-0 on a sacrifice fly.
- Elizabethtown cut the lead in half in the sixth as McClain's RBI single made it 2-1.
- The Blue Jays tried to rally in the home half of the eighth with a pair of runners on. Reliever Austin Ozarowski came on for Gearhart to get the last two outs, which he did by way of a strikeout and a groundout to keep E-Town at bay.
- The River Hawks added three insurance runs in the ninth thanks to an RBI single from CJ Orrego and Michael Girardi knocking in two more runs with a ribbie single of his own.
- Ozarowski stayed on to get the last three outs for SU, with the infield doing the honors with a game-ending double play.
- Gearhart moved to 6-0 on the year with four strikeouts and just seven hits and two walks in 7.1 innings of work.
- Ozarowski picked up one K to close out the remaining 1.2 innings on the mound.
- The River Hawks needed just six hits to take the win as Dylan Heyduk and Lincoln Hower each had a pair. Girardi had a hit with two walks, while Orrego had the other.
