Season Ends in Rain-Drenched Semifinals Game at Scranton

SCRANTON, PA - Susquehanna headed up to the Electric City Wednesday afternoon for the Landmark Semifinals, with the task of upending the top-seeded University of Scranton Royals. The home team came out strong, scoring eight of the game's first ten goals in an 18-8 victory. The defeat ended the River Hawks' season, which showed tremendous growth as the spring went on to finish 9-10 overall and 5-4 in Landmark play.

HOW IT WENT DOWN
  • Scranton's first two shots found the back of the net as Quinn Carson scored the first, while Patrick D'Amaro had the next.
  • These would be the first two of the Royals' six goals in the first quarter to lead 6-2 through the opening 15.
  • Susquehanna got on the board thanks to first-year All-Landmark choice Matt Chubenko scoring halfway through the period to make it 2-1.
  • Scranton won the ensuing faceoff and went on a quick four-goal run to take control back leading 6-1.
  • Senior Nick Remund notched his first goal of the day to wrap up the first-quarter scoring, helping to minimize the deficit after one.
  • The Royals continued their great work by inching ahead with two more goals to start the second quarter.
  • Susquehanna's leading scorer Pat McDermott kickstarted his day with a goal on a Remund assist. Remund got back in the scoring column with his second goal of the day to make the score 9-4.
  • With less than one minute remaining, Scranton stunned the River Hawks with two goals, separated by just 11 seconds and both from Chase Ritcey with 48 and 37 seconds showing on the clock to lead 11-4 at the half.
  • The third quarter was more subdued thanks to some good defensive play. The first 13 minutes saw both sides exchange one goal, though the Royals turned it on late with two more to enter the fourth ahead 14-5.
  • McDermott represented the River Hawks' goal for the third period, assisted by Kieran Koenke.
  • Koenke got a goal of his own to start the fourth as the score read 14-6 Scranton.
  • The River Hawks added two more goals in the period from Maro and McDermott. The Royals scored four in the final stretch.
THAT'S A WRAP!
  • Susquehanna men's lacrosse finished another season in the Landmark Semifinals, their third in a row since the Landmark expanded to a six-team format in 2024.
  • Faced with replacing all six of their 2025 All-Landmark selections due to graduation, the River Hawks spent the early part of their season finding their rhythm.
  • By the time Landmark season began, Susquehanna found a potent combination that spearheaded them to a 5-4 league record and capturing the fifth seed for the tournament.
  • For the second straight year, the River Hawks won their opening round tournament game on the road, this year at the expense of fourth-seeded Moravian as McDermott's late-game heroics resulted in a 13-12 win.
  • McDermott finished a breakthrough junior season with a team-best 64 points on an even 32 goals and 32 assists. Some of his 2026 highlights included reaching 100 career points and tying the program record with 11 points in one game against Drew, which served as a pivotal win to help clinch a playoff berth.
  • The first-year Chubenko, another All-Landmark selection, led the team in goals with 40, along with eight assists for 48 points.
  • Faceoff man Brandon Cash completed an All-Landmark campaign winning 226-of-370 midfield battles for a .611 win percentage and 106 ground balls.
  • Short stick defensive midfielder and All-Landmark choice Gabe Broome recorded 63 ground balls, while contributing 15 points on 11 goals and four assists.
  • Senior Remund completed his career with 78 points on 57 goals and 21 assists.
  • Goalie Will Harcourt settled in as the team's starting keeper for the final stretch of the season. He finished with 106 saves versus 119 goals allowed for a 3-6 record on the year.
