BETHLEHEM, PA - Susquehanna Baseball kicked off their away weekend series against Moravian University on Friday. In a game that went into extra innings, the Moravian Greyhounds ended the game in the 12th inning with a RBI single through the right side to secure the 7-6 win.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- The ball game started with no runs scored for either team through the first two innings. Susquehanna was able to change that in the top of the third when Lincoln Hower crossed home plate on a wild pitch. Michael Gagliardi gave his team another run with an RBI single to left field to give the River Hawks an early 2-0 lead.
- Moravian didn't hesitate to answer back, as in the very next inning, Troy Rabosky would hit a solo shot to left field to score the Greyhounds' first run. An RBI double from Moravian would tie the game at two runs a piece.
- In one of the wildest plays for Susquehanna this year so far, Dylan Heyduk advanced to third base after a failed pick off attempt. Heyduk then went on to score after a throwing error from the Moravian pitcher to give Susquehanna back the lead 3-2.
- Moravian would continue with the back and forth action, responding to SU's run in the fifth inning with two home runs in the sixth. David Vozzo tied the game with a single-run shot to center field and Rabosky sent his second ball over the fence, giving Moravian the 3-4 lead.
- More back and forth action ensued in the seventh inning with Susquehanna starting with two runs to take a 5-4 lead after a RBI double from Michael Girardi, who went on to then score off another error from Moravian. The Greyhounds would then tie the game in the bottom half of the inning with a RBI single from Rabosky, tying the game at five apiece.
- The tied score would carry over past the ninth inning, meaning extra baseball for both teams. In the top of the 11th, Gagliardi continued his great performance with a solo home run to center field to give the River Hawks a 6-5 lead.
- Moravian answered with a run in the bottom half to keep the game and their chances of winning alive. The Greyhounds were then able to secure the 7-6 win in the bottom of the 12th with a walk off RBI single to right field.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Gagliardi led the way for the River Hawks in the box score with three hits including his third home run of the season. The junior shortstop also picked up two RBI's and a walk in his dominant performance in the batters box.
- Andrew Haussman and Hower joined Gagliardi as the only River Hawks with multiple hits, claiming two each. Girardi, Heyduk, and Paul Daly recorded a hit each.
- In a back and forth high scoring affair, the River Hawks and Greyhounds combined for 23 hits, with four of them being solo home runs.
NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
- Susquehanna looks to bounce back as they continue their weekend series with Moravian on Saturday, April 4 with a conference doubleheader starting at noon.
