SELINSGROVE, PA - The Susquehanna University baseball team overcame a 6-1 deficit against Lycoming Wednesday, rallying with two runs in the fifth and three in the seventh. Designated hitter
Paul Daly tied it up at 6-6 with a two-run double in the seventh, then called game with his two-run homer in the 11th to help the River Hawks even the season series with the Warriors by an 8-6 score.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Dane Rue took the mound to start the game for the River Hawks. The Warriors opened their day with three in the first, with a hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and then a throwing error causing two more to score.Â
- Lycoming added another run in the top of the second with a bases-loaded walk.Â
- Susquehanna got one back in the fourth inning when CJ Orrego singled up the middle to score Lucas Zachesky from second.Â
- The Warriors tried to thwart the comeback rally with two in the top of the fifth as they cashed in with runners on second and third to begin the frame.Â
- The River Hawks matched this effort as Michael Gagliardi offered up his third home run in less than a week, a two-run shot to left field.Â
- Susquehanna then brought the hammer down in the bottom of the seventh with the top of the lineup coming up to bat.
- Michael Girardi and Dylan Heyduk each led off with walks. Two batters later Andrew Haussman singled to bring in Girardi. Daly followed this up with a double to center field, bringing hojme both Heyduk and Haussman to tie it up at 6-6.Â
- The game went scoreless for the next four innings. Austin Ozarowski took over on the mound for SU in the top of the eighth, posting three strikeouts to keep Lyco off the board going into the 11th innings.Â
- Gagliardi reached first on an error in the bottom of the 11th. With two outs, Daly came up to bat. After coming close to a multi-base hit that just went foul, he hit one towards the setting sun in left field to send Bollinger Field into a panic with a walkoff victory.Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Daly's four-RBI day came compliments of his 2-for-6 day with a double and a homer.Â
- Heyduk batted 2-for-4 with two walks and one double. He boosts his career total to 102Â walks, good for second all-time.
- Haussman finished 2-for-5 with one walk and one RBI.Â
- Girardi had a double, while singles from Gagliardi, Jaden Buechler and Orrego accounted for the River Hawks' ten-hit day. Lycoming finished with nine hits.Â
- Rue pitched the first four innings, allowing just two earned runs while posting five strikeouts.Â
- Luke Goodwin came on to pitch the middle innings, striking out four and allowing just three hits.
- Austin Griffith faced three batters in the top of the first before Ozarowski took over. Ozarowski earned the win after pitching 3.2 innings with three K's and giving up just two hits and no runs.Â

- Susquehanna enters the weekend hosting Drew in a Landmark weekend series, beginning with two games on Saturday starting at 12 p.m. and one game Sunday at 12 p.m.
