The Athletic Communications Office promotes and publicizes the university's 23 intercollegiate NCAA varsity sports, which compete in the Landmark Conference, on both national and international stages. The office serves as Susquehanna's primary liaison for its athletics programs with sports news outlets, fans and the public. Â
Key responsibilities include media relations, news releases and feature stories, game-day press area operations, interview requests, intercollegiate relations with competing programs, content for social media, the website and newsletters, statistical records and team histories, and collaboration with the University's Marketing & Communications Division.Â

Credentials and Coverage Protocols
Thank you for your interest in covering Susquehanna University Athletics. Below are services provided by the Athletics Communications Office to aid media members in their coverage of River Hawks athletics, and a list of a guidelines for credentialed guests to follow to ensure a professional and compliant environment during athletic events.Â
Credentialing Â
The Susquehanna University Athletics Communications Office manages the issuance and regulation of all credentials.
Credentials
- remain the property of Susquehanna Athletics and must be surrendered upon request.Â
- must always be visible and used strictly for their assigned purpose.
- are nontransferable.Â
- do not guarantee seating or access to sold-out events. Â
 The request timelines for media credentials are:
- Print Media: Submit at least 48 hours before the event to request seating.Â
- Radio/Television Media: Submit at least 72 hours in advance to request seating. Â
- Phone lines and internet connections are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at most of our athletic facilities.Â
- Photography: Submit at least 24 hours in advance to request sideline passes.Â
- Only professional photographers or pre-approved individuals working for Susquehanna, the visiting school, or accredited media outlets are eligible.Â
Credentialed media personnel must comply with NCAA rules regarding field and court access, including but not limited to:
- Football:Â No access between the 25-yard lines; stay outside the restraining lines.
- Basketball:Â Access limited to baseline areas behind the baskets.Â
Credential misuse, noncompliance with NCAA regulations, or unprofessional conduct will result in immediate removal and/or revocation of future credentialing privileges.Â
Interview Requests and ProtocolsÂ
Scheduling Interviews: All interview requests for student-athletes or coaches must be coordinated with the Athletic Communications Office. A minimum of 24-hour notice is requested.Â
Post-Game Interviews: Coordinated after a 10-minute cooling-off period:
- Home Events:Â Visiting coach(es) and selected student-athletes address the media first, followed by Susquehanna representatives.
- Landmark Conference/NCAA Championships:Â The winning team addresses the media first (in compliance with NCAA Interview Policies).Â
Photo, Video, and Audio RestrictionsÂ
Due to conference broadcast agreements, NIL policy and/or NCAA regulations:Â
- Spectator Restrictions: Video, audio, and professional camera/recording devices are prohibited for spectators. Fans may not reproduce or distribute any recording for commercial purposes without express written consent from the Director of Athletics.
- Streaming Restrictions: Visiting schools are prohibited from livestreaming Susquehanna home contests, without express written consent from the Director of Athletics.Â
- Photography Restrictions: No one may sell photographs or use student-athlete images from competitions, practices or team events for commercial purposes while the student-athlete retains NCAA eligibility. This includes prohibition from:
- Selling photographs of current student-athletes for personal or commercial use.
- Posting student-athlete images on social media or commercial websites.Â
- Using student-athlete images on commercial items such as merchandise.
- Photographers Can:
- Provide photos to the athletics communications office (without watermarks or logos).
- Post images for newsworthy or informational purposes, provided no links to commercial sites or promotions are included.Â
Student Media DevelopmentÂ
Susquehanna Athletics fosters professional development opportunities for student media by providing access and insight into media operations:
- Student journalists are subject to all credentialing policies.
- Students are encouraged to coordinate with athletics staff and experienced media professionals to ensure compliance with protocols and professional standards.Â
