Joe DeBonis joined the Susquehanna Football coaching staff in the summer of 2025, coaching the defensive ends and HAWKs.
DeBonis is a Rochester, New York product, playing high school football at Aquinas Institute of Rochester where he was a two-time team captain playing offensive and defensive line. His success parlayed into not just individual accolades such as National Football Foundation (NFF) Scholar-Athlete and First Team All Greater Rochester, but also a pair of Section V championships in 2017 and 2018, as well as a NYS State football championship in 2018. He received the 2020 Black Lion Award and scholar-athlete awards from the Private Parochial League and Ontario Honda Silver Scholar Award. DeBonis continued his playing career up the road at UR as a defensive lineman and linebacker. He set the Yellow Jackets' program record with 12 quarterback hurries, led the team with five sacks in 2024, and was the team leader in tackles for loss twice with six in 2023 and 10.5 in 2024. DeBonis finished his career as a 2024 Second Team All-Liberty League selection. Off the field he was a member of the Position Leadership Council, was a team captain and helped conduct captain practices, an equipment room team leader, and assisted with prospect camps and recruiting visits.
DeBonis earned his Bachelor's from University of Rochester in 2024, majoring in Business Analytics with a minor in Economics and Digital Media Studies. He went on to earn his Master's in Business Analytics from UR in May 2025.
