Mike Wiand joined the Susquehanna football coaching staff in 2018 as an assistant coach working with the River Hawk running backs. He was promoted to Offensive Coordinator in 2024.

For the 2019 season, Wiand was given the added responsibility of coordinating the kickoff return. He was given another position to coach prior to the 2020 as Wiand now coaches the wide receivers. Also in 2019, Wiand oversaw the strength and conditioning program for football, doing the same in the fall of 2021 for football, softball, women's volleyball and men's and women's swimming.

In 2019, he mentored running back Da'Avian Ellington '22 to All-Centennial Conference First Team honors while the River Hawks led the Centennial with 32 rushing touchdowns and ranked second with 183.5 rushing yards per game. Wiand helped to coach Aaron Speight '20 to All-Centennial Honorable Mention in first season at SU.

The Mifflinburg, Pa., native was a standout player at East Stroudsburg University for three seasons (2015-2017). He began his collegiate career at Penn State University, spending two seasons (one as a red-shirt) as a Nittany Lion (2013-2014). At East Stroudsburg, Wiand was a 2016 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference selection at linebacker. He accumulated 201 tackles during his career at ESU. In 2016, Wiand led the team with 82 tackles and two interceptions while being second with 83 stops the following season.

He also excelled off the gridiron, being named a 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and qualifying for the National Football Foundation Hampshire Society after his final collegiate season.

Wiand was a three-time All-Heartland Athletic Conference and All-District 4 honoree for Mifflinburg H.S. He was invited to the U.S. Army All-American Combine as well as the District 4 North-South All-Star and Mid-Atlantic All-Star Games. Wiand also lettered in basketball and track & field at MHS.

Wiand earned a Bachelor's in exercise science from East Stroudsburg University (2018)
