Coach Bemis enters her fifth season with the Susquehanna University track and field program, working primarily with the horizontal jumpers, and assisting with sprints, hurdles and vertical jumps. She works full time as a Career Counselor in the SU Career Development Center and Co-Advises the SU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Bemis comes to SU after coaching as a graduate assistant at Slippery Rock University from 2015-2017 and at the high school level in 2013 and 2014. During her previous tenures, she has aided in the development of 8 NCAA DII All-Americans, 16 national qualifiers, 56 provisional national qualifiers, 52 All-Region performers, 18 conference champions, and 47 All-Conference performers. Academically, 13 individuals were named to All-Academic teams as appointed by the USTFCCCA and CoSIDA.
Administratively, she contributes extensive event and meet management experience, having assisted in the planning and implementation of 18+ competitions for cross country, and indoor and outdoor track and field, and 7+ camps and clinics servicing over 12,000 participants.
Bemis embarked on her coaching career after one of the most decorated careers in Edinboro track and field history. A standout multi-event athlete for the Fighting Scots, Bemis graduated following the 2014 outdoor season.
Individually, she earned All-America honors a total of six times in her career, with a runner-up finish in the long-jump at the indoor national championships in 2014. Bemis was a 14x National Qualifier, 18x All-Region Honoree, 15x PSAC Champion, 9x PSAC Runner Up, 26x All-Conference Honoree.
She was named the Atlantic Region and PSAC Conference Field Athlete of the Year on five occasions for her dominance in the long jump, triple jump, and high hurdle competitions.
In addition to her excellence in athletic competition, Bemis also excelled in the classroom and brings a lengthy list of academic honors with her. She was named to the Capital One Academic All-America team three times, recognized as the PSAC Pete-Nevins Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2014, and was a PSAC Top 10 honoree six times, setting a PSAC conference and Edinboro school record.
Her efforts were recognized on the national level when she was awarded the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and was selected as a nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
Bemis graduated from Edinboro University with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education (Sport and Recreation Administration) in 2014, and from Slippery Rock University with a Master of Arts in Student Affairs in Higher Education in 2017. She attended a USATF Level 1 Certification and holds a USTFCCCA Strength and Conditioning Certification.
