The Selinsgrove native is in his fourth term with Susquehanna, serving as an assistant coach between both the women's and men's programs since 2010, interspersed with runs as a head coach at the junior high and high school levels. He is also Susquehanna's women's golf head coach.

SU also claimed the Susquehanna Trailways Tip-Off Tournament title and produced one All-Landmark Conference Second Team selection. He rejoined the program for the 2022-23 season.

After the 2020-21 season was canceled due the COVID-19 pandemic, Ettinger, an elementary school teacher for the Selinsgrove Area School District, picked up the clipboard to run the girls basketball program at Selinsgrove High School. In his one year leading the Seals the team produced 14 wins, their highest win total in ten years and doubling their win total from the previous season, while gathering three all-conference selections, a MaxPreps Top 25 ranking for AAAAA in Pennsylvania, and the District 4 Coaches Sportsmanship Award.

In his two stints with the SU men's basketball program, Ettinger helped lead the team to back-to-back trips to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament in 2016 and 2017, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2017. The 2015-16 squad also notched a program-record 24 victories. He aided in the mentoring of one All-American, one Landmark Player of the Year, one Landmark Rookie Player of the Year, and nine All-Landmark picks over his two stints while being part of the 2015-16 Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year.

Ettinger was the head coach of the boys' varsity basketball team at Midd-West High School from 2013 to 2015. He coached three Daily Item All-Star and three Susquehanna Valley All-Star Game selections as well as one All-Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference pick. In two seasons, the Mustangs matched the win total from the previous four seasons combined. Ettinger was selected to be the head coach of the Senior Class All-Star Game for the Susquehanna Valley All-Stars.

He guided the Cen-Penn Storm AAU Team to a 25-8 record and five tournament championships in his two-year tenure (2010-12). Cen-Penn Storm qualified for the national tournament during his second season at the helm. Ettinger also served as the junior high head boys' basketball coach for the Midd-West School District from 2008 to 2010.
