George Goodwin ’93 is entering his third season with Susquehanna football, serving as an assistant coach and working with the outside linebackers (STARs). Goodwin has come full circle in his Susquehanna football journey, returning to his stomping grounds where he was a fullback during a successful run that included an NCAA Semifinals appearance in 1991. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Susquehanna in 1993.
A local product, Goodwin attended Milton Area High School, where he was a three-sport athlete in football, wrestling, and baseball. He went on to coach high school football for many years at Lewisburg, Bloomsburg, and Milton. Goodwin served as Milton’s head coach from 2010 to 2016, making three consecutive appearances in the District IV AAA Playoffs, including runner-up finishes in 2011 and 2012. Throughout his coaching career, he has coached linebackers and the backfield, served as defensive coordinator at Lewisburg from 2006-09, and worked as a strength and conditioning coach for Milton from 1998 to 2007.
Goodwin lives in Milton with his wife, Amy, and their four children, Alyse, Cole, Luke, and Mia. The Goodwin family has maintained a strong connection to Susquehanna athletics. Cole recently graduated from Susquehanna University after serving as a two-time captain of the track and field team. Luke currently plays baseball for the River Hawks as a pitcher and infielder.
Goodwin’s return to Susquehanna allows him to combine his passion for coaching with a university and football program that played an important role in his own athletic and educational journey.
