Ryan McGuire returned to his alma mater in August 2019 for a second go-round as a member of the Susquehanna coaching staff. McGuire spent three seasons (2004-2006) with the cross country and two seasons with the track & field (2005-2006) programs right after his graduation from SU.

He was part of the 2021 Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year after helping the men's outdoor track & field team to the Landmark Conference Championship title. With McGuire's guidance, the mid-distance and distance runners claimed Top 5 finishes, including a bronze medal finish in the 10,000m.

For the 2019-20 indoor track & field campaign, McGuire assisted in mentoring one USTFCCCA All-Mideast Region pick and one All-Landmark Conference selection. During the 2019 cross country season, he helped coach an NCAA Women's All-Mideast Region performer, an NCAA Women's Mideast Region All-Freshmen Team member, and the 2019 Landmark Women's Rookie of the Year plus four All-Landmark Conference selections (three women's, one men's).

McGuire came to Susquehanna from local Selinsgrove Area H.S., where he wrapped up an 11-year career tackling various roles with the boys' and girls' cross country and track & field teams. As the head boys' track coach between 2011 and 2018, the Seals achieved 19 top-5 performances in school history while three runners medaled at states and one finished ninth at nationals. While serving as the girls' track distance coach during the same time, he coached the school record holder in the 1600, 3200, and 4 x 800 while developing seven of the school's top-10 all-time performances in the 4 x 800.

In his nine years as the head boys' and girls' cross country coach (2009-2018), McGuire helped the boys' team to their first-ever District 4 championship and coached the individual district champion - both in 2009. The girls' team qualified for the state meet in 2012 and 2016 while producing the school's first-ever girls' individual district champion in 2016. The girls' team also reached their highest finish at the state meet in school history. The school's first and only three girls' state medalists and the school's top-5 times for both the girls' and boys' 5K all happened under McGuire's watch.

As an assistant at Susquehanna between 2004 and 2006, the men's outdoor track & field team was crowned the Middle Atlantic Champions in 2005 while the men's and women's cross country teams put in top-15 regional finishes.

McGuire earned All-MAC Second Team honors in cross country in 2003 as a runner at Susquehanna.

He earned his Professional Teaching Certificate from Susquehanna University in 2006, earning his B.A. in economics from Susquehanna University in 2004.

Being sponsored by Brooks, he is now a professional runner who has won the 2015 Long Island Half-Marathon and came in second at the 2010 Long Island Marathon, the 2014 New Orleans Marathon, and the 2015 Suffolk County Half-Marathon.
