Hannah Lyons led the team with 11 kills,
Riley O'Dowd added ten kills as the Susquehanna University Volleyball team defeated Landmark Conference foe Scranton in five sets at O.W. Houts Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.
The River Hawks (17-7 Overall, 3-1 Landmark), dropped the first set, 25-20, but were able to bounce back in the second set . Midway through the second set, the River Hawks went on two different six-point runs, winning the set 25-18.
The third set was a back-and-forth affair. The River Hawks were down 14-12, then proceeded to score four straight points and
Brooke Lacesa's three straight kills were able to give the River Hawks the lead that they would not give back.
In the fourth set, the River Hawks struggled out of the gate, trailing by six or more points on four different occasions and they ended up dropping the set, 25-18.
In the dramatic fifth set, the River Hawks played stellar defense, with Lyons and Portale having two crucial blocks that sealed the win for the River Hawks.
Gabby Davis distributed 22 assists, and
Kasey Bost led the River Hawks with 19 digs.
Susquehanna looks to continue its success this weekend, as they take on No. 1 Calvin and No. 7 Thomas More on Friday in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Game one is set for 3 p.m.
