Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Drops Landmark Conference Game to Goucher

Maxfield Reed and Ed Lynch each recorded two shots on goal, Matt Ellingworth saved a penalty kick and the team edged the Gophers in almost every statistical category, but the Susquehanna University Men's Soccer team surrendered an early goal in a 1-0 loss to Landmark Conference opponent Goucher College Saturday afternoon in Baltimore.

The River Hawks (1-10-2 Overall, 0-3-1 Landmark) started out strong in the opening minutes, obtaining two corner kicks and taking two shots before the Gophers could even threaten to score.

The Gophers (5-8-1, 2-2) began to switch the momentum ten minutes into the game and were awarded a penalty kick in the 16th minute that was saved by Ellingworth to preserve the 0-0 tie.

That score was short lived as Goucher scored less than two minutes later to take the lead.

The first half went on to finish with a few scoring chances by both teams, with Ellingworth making a few key saves to keep the team in the game.

The River Hawks then flipped a switch and dominated the second half, but were unable to score a goal.

The team took 13 shots compared to two from Goucher.

Reed had a shot saved in the 54th minute and Lynch followed that up with a shot that was saved just a few moments later. Then in the 60th minute, Reed registered yet another shot that was saved and a minute later, Liam Fitzgerald took a shot that hit the post. Kyle Trainor and Eric Dempsey also had shots that were saved in the closing minutes of the loss.

Susquehanna led in corner kicks taken 10-3 for the game. Matt Ellingworth made five saves.

The River Hawks continue play Wednesday when the team takes on Landmark Conference opponent Juniata at 7 p.m. in Huntingdon.
