Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Defeats Juniata in Overtime Thriller

Chris Naiman scored a goal in the 31st minute while Scott Misson added the game-winning goal in overtime for the Susquehanna University Men's Soccer team in a thrilling 2-1 victory over Landmark Conference foe Juniata College Wednesday evening at Gibbel Stadium in Huntingdon.

The River Hawks (2-10-2 Overall, 1-3-1 Landmark) started out with control of possession, taking two corner kicks in the first five minutes of action.

The Eagles (4-9-2 Overall, 0-5-0 Landmark) rebounded and were able to register two shots on goal in the minutes that followed but both were turned away by Ellingworth.

Naiman was able to get the River Hawks on the board first, as he tucked away a volley off a loose ball in the box that came from a corner kick.

The score remained at 1-0 over the remainder of the first half and most of the second half.

The River Hawks had a few chances in the second half to widen the lead, including a header by Liam Fitzgerald that sailed wide and another header by Misson that narrowly missed the target.

With their backs against the wall, the Eagles were able to equalize the score in the 89th minute of action on a loose ball that found an open Bass Diakhoumpa in the box, who slotted a goal into the right side of the net.

Neither team scored in the final minute of action and the game went into overtime.

In the overtime period, the River Hawks were able to fend off a shot on goal by the Eagles and Misson capitalized on a loose ball from a free kick and was able to flick the ball past the lunging Eagle goalkeeper.

Susquehanna outshot the Juniata 17-11 and took 11 corner kicks to the Eagle's one in the victory.

The River Hawks continue Landmark Conference play Saturday when the team takes on Scranton for a senior day matchup at Sassafras Field. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
