Women’s Soccer Scores in Bunches, Defeats Goucher

Anna Werner and Emily Sullivan each scored two goals, Kate Cantrell had three assists and Madison Welliver had five saves for the Susquehanna University Women's Soccer team in a 4-1 victory over Landmark Conference opponent Goucher Saturday afternoon in Baltimore.

The River Hawks (11-1-2 Overall, 4-0-1 Landmark) wasted no time in grabbing the lead, scoring twice in the opening four minutes of play.

With a defender on her back, Werner was able to push the ball past the charging Gopher goalkeeper and nudge the ball in for the first goal of the game.

Less than a minute later, Cantrell found an open Sullivan at the top of the box and Sullivan tucked away the finish into the right side netting to give the River Hawks a 2-0 edge.

Susquehanna was unable to score over the remaining 40+ minutes of action but managed to take 11 shots compared to Goucher's (4-5-3, 0-3-2) three.

The second half started similarly to the first, with Werner scoring a goal in the 53rd minute and Sullivan scoring another goal just 39 seconds later. Cantrell recorded assists on both scoring plays and now leads the team in that category.

The Gophers would push players forward towards the end of the game and were able to capitalize on a penalty kick in the 75th minute.

The goal ends a streak of 940 minutes and 30 seconds of action where the River Hawks did not give up a goal.

The River Hawks are now unbeaten in the team's last eleven games and have not lost in over a month.

Susquehanna continues play Wednesday when it takes on Gettysburg at 7 p.m. in Selinsgrove
