Kate Cantrell and
Anna Werner each had shots on goal and
Madison Welliver made three saves but the defense relinquished a goal in the 4
th minute of action and the Susquehanna University Women's Soccer team was unable to score a goal over the course of the game and fell 1-0 to Gettysburg College Wednesday evening in Selinsgrove.
The Bullets (8-3-3) created early momentum with a shot on goal in the 3
rd minute and followed it with a goal in the 4
th minute. The goal was made after a long through ball was taken down the right side and Erica Muskus tucked away the finish ahead of the outstretched hands of Welliver into the left side netting.
The River Hawks (11-2-2) would settle in after that, not surrendering any goal scoring chances over the remaining 90 minutes of play.
Werner created a chance in the 23
rd minute when she took the ball up the left side and tried to sneak a shot past the goalkeeper but the ball was touched over the cross bar.
Cantrell followed that with a shot of her own that was also saved.
Susquehanna would create a few scoring chances in the second half, but the story remained the same with the Bullets defense doing just enough to come away with the victory.
Cantrell sent a dangerous cross into the box that sailed over the head of the Bullets goalkeeper but could not find the feet of a River Hawk.
Marley Clendenin fired a shot on a free kick that just sailed wide in the closing minutes as well.
The River Hawks continue Landmark Conference play Saturday when the team takes on Scranton for a senior day matchup at Sassafras Field. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
